This page describes how to add a printer to a Windows PC at DTU Compute. For a short general description of the printing systems and list of printers available at DTU Compute please refer to this link.

Windows 7 (32 and 64 bit), Windows XP and Vista 32 bit are supported using the winprint server. Vista 64 bit is not supported and must use the optional method described below. Windows 8 (32 and 64 bit) are not fully tested but basic printing features have been tested succesfully.

There is a minor difference installing printers whether your Windows PC is joined to DTU's Windows domain (win.dtu.dk, in short "WIN") or not. Pressing Windows key + Pause/Break key will open system information. If "win.dtu.dk" is set under Domain, your PC is joined to the domain.

If your still in doubt please contact ITSupport.

Add a printer to a Windows Vista 64bit computer

To add a printer to a Windows Vista 64bit follow this procedure:

1. On the Start Menu, select "Control Panel"
2. Under "Hardware and Sound", click "Printer" (If your Control Panel is in "Classic View" just click "Printers")
3. Double click "Add Printer"
4. Click on the "Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer".
5. Click on the "The printer that I want isn't listed"
6. Find the name of the printer in the list below.
On the "Select a shared printer by name" Type in the Printer URL of the printer you'd like to use in this format: http://cups.imm.dtu.dk:631/printers/printername

7. When you've typed in the Printer URL, you might need to install the specific driver if the driver is not listed. You can find a zipped printer driver for Windows Vista 64bit in the list below. Download and unzip it to a known location (i.e. your desktop)

1. When it asks for a printer driver, Click on "Have Disk..." and browse to the location of the extracted driver then press OK
2. Select the driver that matches the model of the printer and click "OK".

8. On the "Default Printer" page of the wizard, if you'd like this to be your default printer, select the check box.
9. On the "Completing the Add Printer Wizard" page of the wizard, click "Finish".
