Summary

sunfire replaced, minor updates to firefox, acroread, xfig & R etc.

Details

  • After 7 years of duty sunfire has been taken out of function due to HW problems; only 4 CPUs were available and 8GB RAM. The old sunray2 has taken over. Note: this is a minor performance degradation. Also, this a freshly installed Solaris 10, like sunray4-5, hence some of the old versions available on the old sunfire are no longer available (e.g. SUN Studio 11 under /opt/SS11). Those old versions are now only available for a shorter period on sunray1.
  • sunray2 and sunray3 (aka sol2) has been removed. sunray1 is expected to be taken out May 10th.
  • firefox has been upgraded to version 3.0.7. Old version is available with the command "firefox301"
  • acroread upgraded to 8.0.4 due to security fixes.
  • Default R version is now 2.8.1 on hms1-2 and SUN servers. Version 2.6.2 on SUN servers is still available with the command R-2.6.2 but only on sunray1 and version 2.8.0 on hms1-2 available with R-2.8.0. The version on "gridterm" (i.e. on linux01-30) has been frozen on 2.6.2.
  • The xfig from Blastwave has been removed - instead the xfig version from /usr/unic/bin/ is the default. This version should have more fonts available for text objects.
  • The master node for the SUN grid Engine has been moved from linux01 to hms1. However, this should not affect the end-user by any means.
  • Font path on the SunRay terminals have been updated - should give slightly improved fonts in firefox.
  • The old thinlinc server (thinlinc2.imm.dtu.dk) is no longer working. All known bugs should have been removed from thinlinc.imm.dtu.dk
