2014-10-23 Yosemite issue Homebrew MacPorts

".. Mac froze during the OS upgrade and therefore, I was needed to reboot it (it helped some people on the net) but in my case the Mac didn't boot after the reboot and I was need to make a new clean OS installation and restore my data from a backup.

As I see from some internet discussions, it can be because I used homebrew and mac ports there (I am not 100% sure but I strongly suspect this). Therefore, I will suggest you to remove homebrew and mac ports (if you use it of course) before the upgrade or at least make a time machine backup :)"
