File Servers

DTU Compute IT Support maintains file servers which provide a number of filesystems. Some of the more “important” ones are mentioned below.

List of file systems:

Important

*nix refers to Unix-like operating systems, here mostly Linux but also macOS. The *nix paths are mounted and accessible from Linux servers, and rarely used directly on client machines. Mounting network shares on macOS is done using the Windows path (CIFS protocol), and Linux clients can do this as well.

$HOME

Description: Standard Unix-like home-directory. Mounted as x:\ on Windows. Every user has exactly one folder.

*nix path/home/<username>
Windows path\\nas1.compute.dtu.dk\home|home1|home2|home3|home4\<username>
Backup frequencyDaily
Live dataYes
SnapshotsYes

WINHOME

Description: A CIFS-only share mounted as h:\ on Windows. Every user has exactly one folder.

Windows path\\nas1.compute.dtu.dk\winhome\<username>
Backup frequencyDaily
Live dataYes
SnapshotsYes

Project

Description: Areas with greater capacity than $HOME but lower backup frequency. Ask DTU Compute IT Support for a folder.

*nix path/project/<projectname>
Windows path\\comp-nas3.compute.dtu.dk\project\<projectname>
Backup frequencyWeekly
Live dataYes
SnapshotsYes

Note

All files are synced daily to a shadow server which ensures that only up to one working day of data is lost in case of a complete failure of comp-nas3.compute.dtu.dk

DTU-Compute

Description: Areas that are available from both DTU Compute servers as well as from DTU Computing Center cluster machines. Ask DTU Compute IT Support for a folder.

*nix path/dtu-compute/<projectname>
Windows path\\comp-nas3.compute.dtu.dk\dtu-compute\<projectname>
Backup frequencyNone
Live dataYes
SnapshotsYes

Note

All files are synced daily to a shadow server which ensures that only up to one working day of data is lost in case of a complete failure of comp-nas3.compute.dtu.dk

NoBackup

Description: Larger disk areas mainly for performing calculations on the linux clusters. Ask DTU Compute IT Support for a folder.

*nix path/nobackup/<projectname>
Windows path\\comp-nas3.compute.dtu.dk\nobackup\<projectname>
Backup frequencyNone
Live dataYes
SnapshotsYes

Note

All files are synced daily to a shadow server which ensures that only up to one working day of data is lost in case of a complete failure of comp-nas3.compute.dtu.dk

Groups

Description: Area for group based projects. Mounted as k:\ on Windows.

*nix path-
Windows path\\nas1.compute.dtu.dk\groups
Backup frequencyDaily
Live dataYes
SnapshotsYes

WWW Docs

Description: Web pages for courses, projects, etc.

*nix path/www/docs
Windows path\\www2.compute.dtu.dk\docs
Backup frequencyDaily
Live dataYes
SnapshotsNo

WWW Pages

Description: Personal www pages. Every user has exactly one folder.

*nix path/www/home/<username>
Windows path\\www2.compute.dtu.dk\<username>
Backup frequencyDaily
Live dataYes
SnapshotsNo

Windows Backup

Description: A CIFS share for taking backup of a Windows PCs

Windows path\\nas1.compute.dtu.dk\backups\<username>
Backup frequencyDaily
Live dataNo - Copy of local data
SnapshotsYes

Note

Use of this share is deprecated. Backup is made to the server backup.compute.dtu.dk via the comp-backup program

*nix Backup

Description: A file server for taking backup of a Linux/Mac PCs

*nix pathbackup.compute.dtu.dk:/home/<username>
Backup frequencyDaily
Live dataNo - Copy of local data
SnapshotsYes
