IT Support Wiki
You can find answers to many IT questions on this wiki. If not, let us know.
Account
Username and Password
You receive a username and password from us. You must change the temporary password; see below. Your password is personal and strictly private. This means that no one other than you should know it.
Change of Password
To change your temporary or current password, go to https://password.dtu.dk. It may take several hours before it takes effect on all DTU Compute systems.
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
Many services require that you authenticate with your username and password plus Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). Steps to set it up are documented here.
IT Equipment
Please contact us to decide what equipment you need. The equipment is provided for you as long as you are at DTU, but you must hand it back to IT Support when you leave. You also have access to a range of other IT resources at DTU Compute and elsewhere, contact us for information.
Backup
It is very important that all work related files are stored on a central DTU Compute server or DTU server, as far as possible. Files on laptops must be synced to a central host in order to be backed up. Backup to an external disc or Dropbox is NOT enough! Read more about Backup and contact IT Support if you have any questions or need assistance.
IT Security Policy
DTU Compute follows DTU’s IT Security Policy. This includes password policy, how to protect your equipment, detect phishing and ransomware, etc.
Phishing
Phishing is an increasing threat to everyone on the internet. Please be alert. At the moment, phishing is mostly attempted through email but it may also be over the telephone. Typically, you will receive emails warning you that your mailbox is full, and asking you either to reply with your login credentials or to click a link on a website where you are asked to log in. These emails do NOT come from DTU.
Virus, Ransomware etc.
At the moment, computer viruses and ransomware are mostly spread through email where there is a link for you to click on, but also from Zip files, and suspicious websites. Please back up your data so it is not lost if your computer needs to be reinstalled.
Pirated software
Pirated software is not allowed on a DTU computer, as it is illegal. Be aware of the license details of software downloaded from the internet and contact IT Support for licensing information.
Connecting to DTU from outside DTU
Many services - especially SSH-based - hosted on campus require the use of a VPN connection.
